Living In Present Time
You know how you may have listened to a song a hundred times and then one day you hear a phrase that suddenly has new meaning to you? Well that happened to me this morning as I was listening to one of Caroline Myss’ Morning Meditations.
This is one of her Chakra meditations, a set of meditations that prepares you for your day and then settles you down for sleep at night.
The part that struck me as I listened to it was when she got to the seventh chakra- Living in Present Time. This is like Mindfulness Meditation. You have to remember that yesterday is gone and tomorrow isn’t here yet. In fact tomorrow may never come. All we have is now- the precious energy of now.
You have to remember that nothing in your past has any power over you. When you remember your past, never focus on the negative, even though it is so easy to do. Always focus on the positive, on all the wonderment of the things that have happened. Bring those memories back to the present with you. Focus on the marvelous changes in you that you didn’t see coming.
Practice this “coming back” to the present moment a thousand times a day because “now” is truly all you have. It helps keep your attention in present time. This makes loving everyone so much easier. It makes forgiving everyone so much easier because they haven’t done anything to you.
When you are in the present vs. the past you are looking at a brand new person and you are a brand new person. You’re looking at a thousand new possibilities that couldn’t have been there yesterday.
Refuse to look through yesterday’s clouded lens. You can only clearly see the new untainted day. Feel a bond with everyone you meet. Release the need to know why things happen the way they do. Refuse to project expectations on the way things ought to be or the way people ought to act.
Approach every day living in the present moment and you will release all of the stress in your life. Yesterday’s fight with your husband stays in the past; you live only for today. Tomorrow’s bills lay ahead in the future. You have no expectations. Tomorrow will take care of itself. You focus on today, living moment by moment, relishing each possibility as it presents itself and offering a prayer of gratitude just to be alive.
